The suspension is lifted and widened to accommodate some aggressive BFG 35-inch tires along with a set of Fox remote-reservoir high-performance shocks. In addition, both the front and rear suspension have a unique secondary jounce bumpstop to help the system deal with brutal high-speed bangs and knocks. 1. Be patient during the break-in period

You’ve bought your dream car and now you want to make it last at long as possible in top condition. Here are some things to remember as you pull it out of the dealer’s lot:

•During the break-in period, typically the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km), keep your speed under 55 mph (88 kpm) or to the speed recommended by your car’s manufacturer.
•Avoid heavy loads on the drive train, such as towing trailers, and loading the roof rack or trunk with heavy construction materials.
•Do not allow your new car to idle for long periods — this is good advice for the life of your car, but especially during breakin. The oil pressure generated by doing so may not be sending oil to every part of your engine.
•Use only light to medium acceleration, keeping the engine rpms below 3,000 for the first few hours of driving.
2. Drive with care everyday
Being car considerate shouldn’t stop after the break-in. Drive with care every day and your car will reward you with longer intervals without repair.

•Do not race your car’s engine during start-up.This is a quick way to add years of wear to your engine, especially if it’s cold outside.
•Accelerate slowly when you begin your drive.The most wear to the engine and drive train occurs in the first ten to twenty minutes of operation.
•Warming the engine by letting it idle in the driveway is not a smart idea.The engine doesn’t operate at its peak temperature, resulting in incomplete fuel combustion, soot deposits on cylinder walls, oil contamination, and ultimately damaged components.
•Put less strain on your engine and automatic transmission by shifting to neutral at red lights. Otherwise, the engine is still working to push the car even while it’s stopped.
•Avoid driving at high speeds and accelerating quickly, especially when it’s very hot or very cold outside. Such driving behavior will result in more frequent repairs.
•Extend the life of your tires with careful driving. Observe posted speed limits. Avoid fast starts, stops, and turns. Avoid potholes and objects on the road. Don’t run over curbs or hit the tire against the curb when parking. And, of course, don’t burn rubber.
•When turning your steering wheel, don’t hold it in an extreme right or left position for more than a few seconds. Doing so can damage the power-steering pump.
•Consolidate your short driving trips. Most of the wear and tear — as well as the pollution your car generates — takes place in the first few minutes of driving. Doing several errands at once, during low traffic hours if possible, will keep your engine happier longer.
3. Buy gas at reputable service stations

Ask whether the gas you buy is filtered at the pump and if the station has a policy about changing the pump filters regularly. If you get a song and dance, find another gas station. Some stations don’t have pump filters, making you more vulnerable to dirty gasoline. Other stations may not mix alcohol and fuel properly — or worse, water down their product. Find a station you trust and stick to it.

4. Don’t fill up if you see the tanker

If you happen to see a gasoline tanker filling the tanks at your local gas station, come back another day or go to a different station. As the station’s underground tanks are being filled, the turbulence can stir up sediment. Sediment in your gas can clog fuel filters and fuel injectors, causing poor performance and possibly necessitating repairs.

5. Go easy when you’re stuck

When stuck in mud or snow, don’t make the problem worse by damaging an expensive component. Gently rocking in an attempt to free the car is fine. But if it looks as though you’re really stuck, don’t keep at it. Throwing your car from forward to reverse repeatedly, as well as spinning tires at high speeds, can generate lots of heat and spell trouble for transmissions, clutches, and differentials. It may be cheaper in the long run to call the tow truck rather than risk big repair bills down the road. It’s a good idea to carry a traction aid in the trunk, such as sand, gravel, or cat litter.

#1: Know the actual weight of the trailer

Underestimating the weight of various items placed on the trailer is something Krouse sees often. The solution is to find a truck stop, moving company, or other location with a scale open to the public.

"Always check the total trailer weight and the trailer tongue weight before you tow anything," says Krouse.

#2: Know the actual capacity of the tow vehicle as equipped

Drivers sometimes mismatch a vehicle to the trailer load. Here, the solution can be as simple as going to a dealer for weight information on the vehicle equipped just like yours.

Krouse notes that it's important to think about the amount of people and gear aboard the tow vehicle and add that to the weight being towed.

#3: Don't overload the trailer or tow vehicle

No one wants a broken axle or excessive tire wear, so don't exceed the gross vehicle weight rating.

"By putting too much weight on a trailer it can not only damage the trailer, but also the tow vehicle," Krouse says.

#4: Properly Install Combination Setup

So now you've completed steps one through three, it's still important to set up the hitch ball, brake controller, and sway controls properly.

If all else fails, RTFM applies here. Or in other words, read the owner's manual and follow instructions to install any trailering feature.

#5: Drive Safely

Always remember that your vehicle has a trailer attached: it won't accelerate or brake as quickly as it did without the trailer!

Try to avoid low overhangs if you've got a tall trailer, and make wider turns, keeping the trailer in mind.

Why are child safety seats and inspections so important?

Each year about 600 to 700 children, birth to 5 years of age, are killed and about 80,000 are injured as passengers in motor vehicle crashes.

The number of annual child passenger fatalities has fluctuated considerably over the past decade. Studies of factors that might contribute to these annual variations suggest that the overriding factor is travel exposure–changes in the amount of time that children spend each year in motor vehicles. It appears that during the late 1980s, when child safety seat use increased rapidly, the positive effect of child safety seat use was overwhelmed by an increase in child travel exposure.

In 1995, about 56 percent of those children who were killed were completely unrestrained at the time of the crash.

Child safety seats could have saved most of those children who died unrestrained–about 200 children could have been saved in 1995.

As many as three-quarters of child safety seats are misused–reducing their effectiveness in a crash. Frequent mistakes include failure to use a locking clip and/or chest clip where needed and improper use of the child seat harness straps.

Not all child safety seats fit all cars. Compatibility problems can make it difficult or impossible to correctly install a child seat in some vehicles. Common compatibility problems include vehicle safety belts that cannot be made to tightly lock a child seat in place, and vehicle seat belt attachment points that are positioned so that the seat belt cannot hold the child seat securely.

Passenger-side air bags are effective at saving adult lives, but present a deadly compatibility problem for children. Infants less than 1 year of age must never ride in the front seat in a rear-facing safety seat in a vehicle with a passenger air bag. In a crash, the deploying bag could strike the rear facing infant seat very hard, seriously injuring or killing the infant. Older children who are improperly restrained are also at high risk. All children are safer in the back seat. Infants must ride in the rear seat, facing the rear of the car.

For many years, drinking and driving has received the majority of attention when it comes to traffic accidents and fatalities, but another deadly combination that has become the norm for many can be just as fatal. Texting and driving has become a habit -and it’s not just teenagers! Many adults text while driving, answer emails and turn their vehicles into a mobile office…and most of us have surely driven by a swerving car only to see a parent texting- with a young child in the back seat!!

A study by AAA and Seventeen Magazine found that 61% of teens admit to risky driving habits, and 46% of those kids say they text and drive. That’s an alarming number of kids who admit to texting behind the wheel! In another study released by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, researchers found that “texting took a driver’s focus away from the road for an average of 4.6 second-enough time to travel the length of at football field at 55 mph.” In that length of time you could swerve off the road, hit another car-or cause serious injury to yourself or others.

Currently, there are cell phone applications being developed to help parents control the availability of text functions on their children’s phones. “Textecution”, an app only currently available for adroid phones, uses GPS to determine how fast a cell phone is “moving.” If it is traveling at a speed greater than 10 mph the texting function is disabled-along with internet browsing. There are still some flaws in the design-the system can’t distinguish if you are simply a passenger in a vehicle and in those cases also will not allow you to text. However in cases like that access can be requested via a quick message to the parent asking for access-parents have control of the system from their own mobile device. (www.textecution.com)

But, kids will learn from example, and if you don’t put down the cell phone while driving neither will they. And if you continue to respond to friends and business associates asking how long until you arrive at a meeting-they will continue to try and reach you when you are trying to safely arrive at your destination. Set a good example for those around you and pledge to no longer text and drive-when you have the urge to text, tweet, email or type in anyway while driving just ignore the urge or pull over. For your safety and the safety of everyone around you-texting and driving just isn’t worth the risk.

Eliminate Blind Spots

Learning to set your vehicle’s side-view mirrors so you no longer have dangerous blind spots is one of the most important adjustments you can make to improve your driving safety. Once your mirrors are set correctly, it will be much easier to safely change lanes and merge into traffic, because any vehicle coming up behind or beside you will be visible in at least one of your mirrors at all times.
The rear-view mirror is easy to adjust: Its purpose is to show what’s directly behind you. But many people make a crucial error when they set their side-view mirrors – creating dangerous blind spots on both sides of their vehicle.

BLIND SPOTS
Some of us were taught to adjust our side mirrors by sitting behind the steering wheel and turning the mirrors so we can see the sides of our vehicle. But this actually creates tunnel vision to the rear of the car, and overlaps much of what your rear-view mirror already shows you. It also creates blind spots on the left and right sides of your vehicle, momentarily preventing you from seeing a vehicle that’s attempting to pass.

THE CORRECT WAY
To eliminate blind spots, adjust your side mirrors as follows:

1. Sitting in the driver’s seat, lean over to the left until your head touches the driver’s side window. Adjust the left side mirror outward until you can just barely see the very edge of your car – with your head still touching the glass of the driver’s side window.

2. Now, lean the same distance to your right, until your head is in the middle of the car. Adjust the right mirror outward until you can see just the very edge of the car – with your head still in the middle of the car.

3. Sitting in your normal driving position, all three mirrors should work in harmony with each other. Your rear-view mirror should show what’s behind you. The left mirror should show you what’s coming up on your left, and the right mirror should show you what’s coming up on your right. Before upcoming traffic leaves your rear-view mirror entirely, it should be visible in one of your side mirrors – with no blind spot, no delays.

After you make the initial adjustments, you might still need to tweak them slightly. And driving (and backing up) with your mirrors set this way may take getting used to. Learn to rely on your rear-view mirror first, and get used to what your side-view mirrors are reflecting. Once you get used to it, you should find it much easier and safer to change lanes, pass other vehicles and merge into fast moving traffic. By taking the time to adjust your mirrors correctly, you’ll be able to drive more confidently – because you will have eliminated dangerous blind spots.

GMC Adds More Top-Shelf Denali Models

One of the prominent facets noted during the revealing of the 2011 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty was the availability of the top-line Denali trim, previously only obtainable on the 1500-series light-duty trucks. General Motors has added more Denali models to the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD lines.

While we have been aware of the Denali's availability on the Sierra 2500HD with a crew cab, four-wheel drive, and the standard 6.5-foot box, the exclusive trim now spreads to the rear-wheel drive model of the previously configured truck as well. Within the 3500HD line, the Denali badge may be worn on all crew cabs, whether it runs rear- or four-wheel drive, has a standard or long box (8 feet), or utilizes a single- or dual-rear wheel orientation.

"Our Denali line sets the premium standard for the industry," said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director. "We received such an overwhelming response to the new Sierra Denali 2500HD, that we worked quickly and decided to extend the model into the 3500HD series so those GMC buyers can also benefit from blending capability with premium features and styling."

Checking the Denali box on the order form adds extra shine to GMC's bigger trucks. A Denali-specific four-bar front grille with a chrome surround, chrome door handles, and new 18- and 20-inch polished forged aluminum wheels (17-inch on dual-rear wheel setups) are standard fare, while body-colored bumpers are mounted in place of the non-Denali model's chrome bumpers. In the cabin, a Bose sound system, brushed aluminum trim, power-adjustable pedals, and 12-way adjustable power seats add a premium touch to the interior. Extra options include a heated steering wheel and heated and cooled seats.

The 2011 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty goes on sale this summer with a newly available LML-series Duramax diesel engine sporting 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque.

Buick Dominates the Cover of Motor Trend

DETROIT – For the first time in 28 years, Buick dominates the cover of Motor Trend magazine, along with a headline declaring “Buick is Back!”

The April issue of the premier automotive publication features photos of the Buick LaCrosse, Regal Turbo and Regal GS Concept and touts the growing momentum behind Buick.

The April 2010 edition of the magazine includes two Buick features; a drive review of the new 2011 Regal called “International Rescue” and “Trading Places,” a comparison of the 2010 LaCrosse and the 2010 Lexus ES350, in which LaCrosse emerges the winner. The Century T-Type was the last Buick to grace cover of Motor Trend in August of 1982. The April issue of Motor Trend is now available on newsstands.

In his review of the 2011 Regal, Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Angus Mackenzie says the Regal “is the first Buick in history with internationally chic sheetmetal and sophisticated road manners to match,” and that it “is truly likely to appeal to young, affluent, trend-setting import buyers.”

Available in dealerships this spring, the Regal is the next chapter in Buick’s transformation. The vehicle features a dynamic driving experience with a standard 2.4L Ecotec direct injected engine rated at an estimated 182 horsepower (136 kW). Also available later this year is the 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged and direct injected engine rated at an estimated 220 horsepower (164 kW). Customers will also experience many advanced personal technologies, making it a premium sport sedan without the premium price. Pricing for the Regal starts at $26,995.

The LaCrosse, a luxury sedan completely redesigned for 2010, continues to attract buyers to Buick and the 2010 model is selling three times faster than its predecessor. The car has been praised for its exterior styling and luxurious interior and features a suite of advanced personal technologies and safety features that rate among the best in the industry. In addition to two fuel-saving V-6 engines, a new fuel-efficient, direct inject Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder engine will be available with the LaCrosse CX model this spring. LaCrosse will be the only sedan in its segment with an available four cylinder engine.

Buick Regal GS Concept

Have you heard about the all new Buick Regal coming out in just a couple of months? Well GM has released a concept car that will serve as an even more aggressive and sporty option to the Regal CXL.

“We designed the Regal GS to explore the appeal of a high-performance variant of the Regal,” said Craig Bierley, product marketing director for Buick, in a news release.

The Regal GS is equipped with a 255-horsepower turbocharged 2-liter Ecotec engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, all-wheel drive, big Brembo brakes and massive 20-inch wheels and tires. The interior has been modified with typical tuner accoutrements, including a sport steering wheel, metal pedals, a custom black interior and Recaro sport seats.

While G.M calls the Regal GS a “show car,” it’s more of a customized car than a full-blown concept. It’s also a natural progression for the Regal model, which Buick is positioning as a premium sports sedan. Buick more than hinted that the GS could be a “21st-century successor to Buick’s Gran Sport heritage.” And when you take that into consideration, the Regal GS probably doesn’t go far enough in a category that’s loaded with heavy hitters with a minimum of 300 horsepower.

Buick has been undergoing a reinvention of sorts, launching new models designed to reinvigorate its image and broaden its fan base. The Buick LaCrosse is one example of this strategy. Its name relates to the exciting sport of lacrosse, which is a hockey-like game played on a grass field. In French Canada, the word is rather naughty, so the LaCrosse is known as the Allure to our northern neighbors. Though the latest LaCrosse is notably more dynamic than its predecessor, it still holds firm to the Buick qualities of a relatively cushy interior and a smooth, quiet ride.

Shoppers interested in this type of car will also want to check out established front-wheel-drive rivals like the Acura TL, Lexus ES and Toyota Avalon, as well as the rear-wheel-drive Hyundai Genesis, before settling on the Buick. But we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the current LaCrosse to anyone in search of a comfortable yet capable large sedan.

Current Buick LaCrosse

Redesigned for 2010, the Buick LaCrosse is a large front- or all-wheel-drive sedan that rides on an enhanced version of the Chevrolet Malibu's platform. The LaCrosse blends modern styling and surprisingly accomplished handling with traditional Buick traits like light steering and a cushy ride. There are three trim levels: CX, CXL and CXS. Engine options consist of a base 2.4-liter four-cylinder (182 horsepower), a 3.0-liter V6 (255 hp) and a 3.6-liter V6 (280 hp), all paired with six-speed automatics. The LaCrosse is front-wheel-drive except for the CXL, which can be had with all-wheel drive.

Base LaCrosse models come standard with a power driver seat, full power accessories and a seven-speaker CD/MP3 audio system. Higher trims net such niceties as alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, heated power leather seats, rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system with a USB port. There are a number of appealing options as well, including adjustable shock absorbers, xenon headlamps, a head-up display, a hard-drive-based navigation system with a rearview camera and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual headrest displays.

Buick Enclave

The Buick Enclave is a relatively recent entry in the luxury crossover SUV segment that has earned Buick some accolades, ending the brand's string of so-so products. It shares a platform with GM's latest group of large crossovers and features a fully independent suspension, a powerful 3.6-liter V6 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive. The Enclave's interior can accommodate adults in all three rows and offers up to 116 cubic feet of cargo room -- more than many traditional full-size sport-utilities.

A full-size crossover SUV, the Buick Enclave sports a number of family-friendly features, such as a roomy cabin with easily accessed and adult-friendly third-row seats. There are three trim levels: base CX, CXL1 and top-of-the-line CXL2, all with standard seven-passenger seating. An available second-row bench seat increases capacity to eight. The 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.

The well-equipped CX comes with luxuries such as xenon headlights, a power liftgate, triple-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity and OnStar. The CXL1 adds remote ignition, rear park assist with a rearview camera, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power passenger seat and memory positioning for the driver. The CXL2 adds active headlamps, power-folding sideview mirrors, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cooled front seats and a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system with a USB audio jack. Option highlights include a navigation system (with real-time traffic), a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a dual-panel sunroof.

Inside, the Buick Enclave feels genuinely first-class, with a design reportedly inspired by private jet cabins, with a gently curving dash, rich-looking wood-grain inlays and soft, double-stitched leather. Adding interest are a Tiffany-style analog clock and aqua blue instrumentation. With such roomy accommodations, most will probably overlook a few lower-quality trim choices and some minor, overly complicated controls. Access to the third row is excellent, with second-row seats that tilt and slide out of the way, and there are a useful 19 cubic feet of space behind the upright third-row seat.

GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 offers three body styles (regular, extended and crew cabs) and trim levels ranging from no-frills "Work Truck" to ultra-plush Denali. The most popular trim is the midlevel SLE, which provides desirable standard features like air-conditioning, full power accessories and a CD player.

Powertrain choices, traditionally a strong point, encompass everything from a frugal 4.3-liter 195-horsepower V6 to a muscular 6.2-liter V8 with 403 hp. Most Sierras, however, will be fitted with either a 295-hp 4.8-liter V8 or a 315-hp 5.3-liter V8. A four-speed automatic is standard on the 4.3 and 4.8, while a six-speed is fitted to the 5.3 and 6.2. Either rear- or four-wheel drive can be specified.

The History of your GMC Automobile

In 1901, Max Grabowsky established a company called the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed some of the earliest commercial trucks ever designed. The trucks utilized one-cylinder engines. In 1909, the company was purchased by General Motors to form the basis for the General Motors Truck Company, from which GMC Truck was derived.

Another independent manufacturer purchased by GM that same year was Reliance Motor Car Company. Rapid & Reliance were merged in 1911, and in 1912 the marque "GMC Truck" was first shown at the New York International Auto Show. Some 22,000 trucks were produced that year, though GMC's contribution to that total was a mere 372 units.

In 1916, a GMC Truck crossed the country from Seattle to New York City in thirty days, and in 1926, a 2-ton GMC truck was driven from New York to San Francisco in 5 days and 30 minutes. During the Second World War, GMC Truck produced 600,000 trucks for use by the U.S. military.

In 1925, GM purchased the controlling interest in Yellow Coach, a bus manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois which was founded by John D. Hertz. After purchasing the remaining portion in 1943, GM renamed it GM Truck and Coach Division, and it manufactured transit and inter-urban buses in Canada and the United States until the 1980s. GM faced increased competition in the late 1970s and 1980s and stopped producing buses soon after. In 1987, GMC later sold their bus models to Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (also under Motor Coach Industries in Canada) and later NovaBus.

GMC currently manufactures SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty trucks. In the past, GMC also produced fire trucks, ambulances, heavy-duty trucks, military vehicles, motorhomes, and transit buses.
